Work is driving me nuts

I have a simulation that takes sufficiently long to run that I seem to spend most of my time waiting for it to finish working, and when it does I am not at all sure it's giving me the correct results. I really need to be busier the frustration of waiting for this thing to run is seriously driving me over the edge. It doesn't help that I can go all day without speaking to anyone, I share an office with one person who is very nice really but about the quietist person I have ever met if she is in we may exchange all of 5 words if she isn't at least I can have the radio on for company. I really feel like screaming and/or breaking something at the moment. I think the last straw may have been trying to back track the derivation of configurational temperature (while waiting for a run to finish of course) only to find they're using a peice of mathematical notation I have never seen before without explainantion (a : ) since my maths is pretty good this must be from some field of mathematics I have never studied - really helpful.Oh for some progress - just a little - anything.

Do you have anything to distract you? A book of crossword puzzles, minesweeper on a PC, an audio book on headphones?

Not really, since am at work I feel I should be doing something vaguely work-ey. I have gotten quite good at patience but you can only play those sort of games so long before you get sick of them. crosswords I haven't tried might be worth a go. My headphones have the great feature that they don't quite reach to plug into the computer so mostly am without music or audio books keep thinking of buying an extention lead but have had them previously and found they don't work too well.I am sure I'll work something out, other than testing to see what blast radius you get when dropping a pc from a first floor window

Did that with a photocopier once :)How about investing in a mini MP3 player and then you can carry your music/audio books with you at all times.

Wow a photocopier that must have left a dent in the concrete! :)Yeah I have an mp3 player unfortunately it eats batteries, I have to keep recharging, and I tend to phase out just music if I am working, which is why I never had any trouble working infront of the tv etc, I think the variation of radio is prehaps better but even that gets pretty phased out, I think I am going to have to escape the simulation for a bit and try and get clear what needs doing what I need to understand etc space always seems to help
