guildford
I have been here for a few months now and was trying to think how I feel about the place in particular compared with where else I have been. Cardiff was a very vibrent city there was always something going on, somewhere new opening etc a great place to be an undergrad. Bath was quirkier on the one hand very conservative but on the other filled with interesting and slightly odd places, a very comfortable city and one I would definietly like to live in again. So far my impression of Guildford is that everything feels a little temperary, like everyone knows they are not staying that long and so don't really put their mark on anything. Maybe it's just that I have not found the right places in town yet, the university social facilities are all excelent which is so far a saving grace.

I know what you mean about the temporary feeling - I live in the sticks between Northampton and Milton Keynes, and I hate going into MK. Not just because of the entirely gratuitous number of roundabouts and dodgy underpasses, but also because there is no distinguishing feature of any great merit. I suppose MK has the excuse of being a new town, but I don't think Guildford is, is it? (not having visited)
Yep, time to save for a car mate! My flatmate may have one for sale soon...but in the meantime that student fodder could be good to get into :-) crude I know
No not a new town.And by all accounts not nearly as bad as Milton Keynes. I think it has suffered from the growth in high tech industries arround here, lots of young professionals in first/second jobs, which is nice in someways but does mean there isn't the sense of a comunity you get in places that people live with their families etc. Its proximity to london doesn't help since lots of people are paid well enough to nip back and forth to the big smoke for theatre, clubbing, museums etc.
Student Fodder? I have no idea what you're talking about;).Actually undergraduates just make me feel old, in dating terms I am not interested in people much younger than I am.Car might be nice if I could afford to run one (which I doubte)
